Dr. Cheryl Brewer is a Nurse Scientist and Researcher representing the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses & Professional Associates (IASCNAPA). She also serves as Adjunct Clinical Associate for Duke University School of Nursing. Dr. Brewer is the former Associate Vice President of Nursing for the Duke Health Integrated Practice where she provided oversight for the practice and professional development of nurses in more than 120 ambulatory clinic settings.
Her research interests include health-related quality of life and decreasing stigma in individuals with Sickle Cell Disease. She also provides lectures related to Transgender and Gender-diverse Nursing Care, as well as Transformational nursing leadership.
Dr. Brewer is a member of several professional organizations and community boards and the recipient of numerous awards including Distinguished Nursing Alumna at Duke University School of Nursing; Distinguished Nursing Alumna at NC Central University Nursing School, and Outstanding Nursing Alumni Service Award at University of NC - Chapel Hill.
She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from NC Central University, Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Leadership from Duke University, and a PhD in Nursing from the University of NC at Chapel Hill.
